KPL Vientiane Capital has mobilised more than 1,000 security personnel to maintain public order, ensure safety and manage traffic during the 2026 Ork Phansa Festival and Tha Wat Chan Boat Racing event.

(KPL) The security and traffic management plan was reviewed at a meeting held by the Chanthabouly District Police Headquarters on October 22, co-chaired by Colonel Champa Sengsouliya, Deputy Head of the Vientiane Security Headquarters, and Lieutenant Colonel Phonxay Phamoungkhoun, Head of the Chanthabuly District Police Headquarters.

The meeting brought together relevant officials and security personnel to coordinate preparations for the annual Buddhist festival and boat racing event.

Colonel Champa stressed the importance of maintaining security, preserving public order and ensuring smooth traffic flow to prevent congestion throughout the celebrations. He also called for round-the-clock duty rosters to enable officers to respond promptly to emergencies and other incidents.

More than 1,000 personnel from the public security forces, national defence forces and youth volunteers have been assigned to the operation.

The deployment includes three inner security zones, 15 checkpoints at entrances and exits within the festival grounds, and 12 outer security and traffic diversion points.

The designated festival area stretches from the Mahosot Hospital traffic-light intersection to the Pak Pasack three-way intersection, with additional security and traffic management measures along Setthathirath and Khoun Boulom roads.

The measures are intended to help ensure that the celebrations and Tha Wat Chan Boat Racing proceed safely and smoothly, while minimising traffic disruption and protecting residents and visitors.
