The Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union (LPRYU) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in improving livelihoods, promoting sustainable agriculture, and expanding economic opportunities for young people across the country.
The agreement, signed last weekend, was endorsed by Minister of Agriculture and Environment Linkham Douangsavanh and LPRYU Central Committee Secretary Thonglee Sisoulith in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
The partnership aims to support the Government's efforts to reduce poverty by helping transform agriculture from subsistence farming into modern, market-oriented production while enhancing the skills and competitiveness of Lao youth. It also seeks to develop a new generation of young agricultural entrepreneurs through vocational training, technology transfer, and environmentally sustainable farming practices.
Under the agreement, the Youth Union will mobilize young people to participate in agricultural production, encourage youth entrepreneurship, and support investment in livestock breeding, animal feed production, and agricultural supply chains. It will also promote vocational training, facilitate access to financing for young entrepreneurs, and organize youth-led activities in environmental protection, forest restoration, water resource conservation, and public awareness campaigns.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will provide technical support, policy guidance, and professional training to strengthen agricultural production groups and cooperatives. It will also promote the application of modern agricultural technologies, support farm certification, facilitate market access and trade promotion, encourage agricultural tourism, and strengthen environmental conservation initiatives.
Officials said the partnership is expected to enhance employment opportunities, improve rural livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable agricultural and socio-economic development in the Lao PDR.
