Laos Traffic Police Handle Nearly 6,800 Accidents as Authorities Intensify Road Safety Measures

KPL Traffic police across Laos handled 6,779 road accidents in 2025, resolving more than 94 percent of cases, according to the annual report presented by the Traffic Police Department of Laos during its yearly review meeting.


The meeting was chaired by Khamson Sidavong and focused on reviewing achievements in 2025 while outlining priorities and enforcement plans for 2026.

According to the report, traffic police nationwide also produced 179,877 vehicle license plates and conducted 471 security operations in support of Party and state leaders, foreign dignitaries, national meetings, festivals, and other major public events.

Road safety remained one of the department’s top priorities throughout the year.

Authorities established 13 special checkpoints along major routes, including National Road 13 North, National Road 13 South, Road No. 10, and the Laos-China Expressway. The operations specifically targeted drunk driving, overloaded trucks, traffic violations, and incomplete vehicle documentation during both International New Year and Lao New Year celebrations.

Traffic police also carried out nationwide public awareness campaigns aimed at promoting road safety and traffic discipline.

According to officials, 34 awareness activities were organized at schools, villages, and communities, reaching more than 8,300 people through direct outreach as well as radio and newspaper campaigns.

During the meeting, Pol. Col. Khamson Sidavong called on officers nationwide to strengthen law enforcement efforts, improve traffic management, and continue reducing road accidents and congestion.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening political education among officers and increasing visible enforcement on roads across the country.

Outstanding officers and units received commendations for their contributions to maintaining public order and security during major national events, including the 12th National Games held in Vientiane.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Traffic Police Department said it plans to intensify enforcement operations and expand road safety measures nationwide as authorities seek to improve public safety and strengthen traffic discipline across Laos.
