(KPL) The Ministry of Public Security held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 2, 2025, to mark the start of construction for its new modern hospital. The event was attended by General Vilay Lakhamphong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, Mr. Jung Yung-Soo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Lao PDR, along with leaders of the ministry, representatives of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of Korea, the Lao Kigali Organization, the BKYC Group (project developer), the Yongnam University Medical Center (project consultant), and other relevant stakeholders.

Major General Nouchon Konthongdam, Director of the General Department of Logistics, stated that the hospital project is an important milestone in strengthening the Lao public health system, particularly in supporting the health of security forces and the general population. He emphasized that the facility will be equipped with modern infrastructure, advanced diagnostic equipment, and comprehensive medical services, ensuring high-quality treatment and convenient access for patients.

He noted that the existing hospitals under the Ministry of Public Security face serious challenges, including outdated infrastructure, overcrowding, and insufficient medical facilities, which hinder the delivery of effective healthcare. Many of the current medical devices are old and incomplete, making it difficult to meet the needs of both security personnel and the wider public.

Recognizing this urgent need, the Government of the Lao PDR approved the construction of a new hospital and secured financing through a USD 65 million loan from the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of Korea (EDCF).

The new facility will have a capacity of 300 beds and will feature a full range of medical services, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and a modern medical information system, positioning it as a major step forward in improving healthcare infrastructure in Laos.
