(KPL) In a major step towards strengthening the international presence of Lao-made products, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in partnership with CP ALL Laos, has officially launched the “Lao Products to International Standards” project. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday to mark the beginning of a strategic collaboration aimed at raising the quality of high-potential local products and expanding their reach to international markets—starting with 7-Eleven stores across Laos and potentially beyond.

The MOU ceremony was led by key representatives from three major stakeholders, Mrs. Manyvone Vongsai, Director-General of the Department of Medium and Small Enterpris Promotion (DMSME), Mr. Santisouk Phounsavath, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade and Mr. Thatree Jirabanjongjit, Managing Director of CP ALL Laos Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CP ALL (Public) Company Limited

The joint initiative is designed to uplift Lao entrepreneurs by helping them improve production standards, enhance product quality, and ultimately, meet international benchmarks. This not only paves the way for greater product exposure through CP ALL’s extensive 7-Eleven network a global leader in convenience retail—but also promises a wide array of benefits for local producers and the broader economy.

“The goal is not just market access,” said Mrs. Manyvone Vongsai. “It’s about equipping local entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge to scale their businesses sustainably—through better productivity, innovation, and access to funding. This initiative will serve as a platform to bring Lao craftsmanship and products to the global stage.”

The partnership will also serve as a learning bridge, enabling local businesses to adopt advanced production techniques and quality assurance systems. The end result is envisioned to be a new generation of competitive, high-quality Lao products that can confidently stand shoulder-to-shoulder with international brands.

Mr. Santisouk Phounsavath emphasized the vital role of public-private partnerships in national development “Government support through this initiative ensures that entrepreneurs are not alone. They’ll gain essential skills in product development and market expansion. This collaboration strengthens the bridge between policy and practice, ensuring that local businesses can thrive under a united national vision.”

Currently, nineteen 7-Eleven branches operate in Laos, including locations in Vientiane Prefecture, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, Champasak, and Khammouane. Each branch features dedicated shelf space for high-quality Lao goods, giving tourists and locals alike the opportunity to explore and support local craftsmanship.

With the launch of this initiative, the Ministry and CP ALL Laos are not just boosting product exports—they are investing in the future of Lao entrepreneurship. The project is expected to create jobs, stimulate regional economies, and elevate the global reputation of Lao products.

This is more than just an economic boost—it's a cultural statement. From handicrafts to food and agricultural products, Laos is ready to share its unique identity with the world, one 7-Eleven shelf at a time.
