Health authorities continue to stress the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, urging anyone with symptoms such as high fever and headache to seek medical care immediately rather than self-medicating at home.
To prevent further spread of dengue, the Ministry of Health and local authorities are calling on communities across the country to maintain safe and clean environments by eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Recommended actions include cleaning household surroundings, removing stagnant water, changing water in flower vases, disposing of old tires, and using mosquito repellents.
“Dengue fever is a serious disease, but it is preventable. Community participation is the key,” a health official emphasized.
The government and its partners are strengthening efforts under the One Health initiative, which brings together doctors, public health professionals, the media, and local communities. Activities include clinical training, improved surveillance, and awareness campaigns, particularly through schools and villages. Cleanup efforts led by village chiefs are being encouraged to ensure sustainable, year-round mosquito control.
Like many Southeast Asian countries, Laos faces recurring dengue challenges, but experts highlight that coordinated preventive actions are helping to reduce risks. The Ministry of Health remains committed to keeping dengue prevention high on the national agenda, with strong support from development partners.
With collective action, increased awareness, and strengthened systems, health authorities are confident that Laos can minimize the impact of dengue fever and protect communities nationwide.
