(KPL) Authorities in Lao People's Democratic Republic are preparing to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Workers' Day with a series of nationwide activities aimed at promoting unity and worker awareness.

The Lao Trade Union Federation has instructed trade union bodies at all levels to organize this year’s observance as a lively and broad-based movement.

Speaking at a press conference on April 23, Khamphoy Vannasan, President of the federation’s Central Committee, said the occasion will serve both as a commemoration of workers’ historical contributions and as an opportunity to strengthen the protection of workers’ rights and interests.

Activities will include public awareness campaigns, educational sessions on the history of International Workers’ Day, and programs designed to enhance workers’ understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and professional skills.

Officials say the initiative also aims to promote unity, discipline, and technical knowledge among workers, while encouraging moral values and productivity.

A wide range of activities will be organized across the country, including workplace clean-up campaigns, knowledge competitions, blood donation drives, sports events, and cultural performances.

Authorities will also facilitate visits by Party and government leaders to factories, industrial zones, and labor units to engage directly with workers.

Mr. Khamphoy called on Party and state leaders to support trade union activities and ensure effective implementation of their roles and responsibilities. He also urged trade union members and workers nationwide to actively participate and uphold their duties with efficiency and commitment.

The Central Committee of the Lao Trade Union Federation will host a main celebration and a health walk on May 1 at Patuxay Park, with participation from government leaders, trade union members, employers, and workers.

Officials said the celebration will be conducted in a spirit of unity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
