(KPL) Thai teams have won three categories at the regional badminton event Beer Lao International Series 2017 hosted by the Lao Badminton Federation.
Beer Lao International Series 2017, an Asian badminton competition event, was held in Vientiane on Oct 31 - Nov 5.
Over 200 athletes from nine countries in the Southeast Asia region have registered for the event.
They represented Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Lao PDR, said Secretary General of the Lao Badminton Federation, Mr Somsaveng Sengsilavong.
The badminton event comprised five categories namely Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men's Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, according to Mr. Somsaveng.
The winners of the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles categories were from Thailand while those with the first runner-up titles in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles represented Thailand and Vietnam, respectively.
Thai athletes also won the top place in Mixed Doubles while those from Singapore were announced as the first runner-up in the category.
The winning teams of Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles were Malaysia.
Each winning team was awarded a gold medal and 5 million kip in cash.
The Lao National Badminton Federation said its officials gained much knowledge and skills from hosting the 2017 series.
Mr. Somsaveng Sengsylavong said this year his officials have obtained more organizing experiences from hosting the competition and are looking forward to next year’s event.
The International Series is a level 4 of the International Badminton competition, which is an individual event open to all athletes in Asia.
Lao PDR previously organized three international badminton events including Lao Future Series Badminton Championship in 2008, Lao International Challenge 2009 and Lao International Challenge 2010.
