(KPL) The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Star Telecom and the Viettel Group launched the Lao Phetsarath font and keyboard application for computers and smart phones on 5 Feb in Vientiane Capital.
The application was developed specifically for electronics compatible with android, iOS, and the windows operating system. Users can download the application from the Google Play store, App store, and Windows store.
The development of the Phetsarath font that is compatible with various kinds of IT gadgets commenced in March 2014 as a tripartite corporation between the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Star Telecom and the Viettel Group of Vietnam, according to the Deputy Director of Viettel Group Hoang Minh Tuan.

“This project is evidence of assistance from the Viettel Group in contributing to information and communication technology development. The result of the research project will help Lao people gain access to easy-to-use technology. As a result, Lao people, wherever they are, can communicate in the Lao language,” said Mr Samit Saphukdy, Consultant to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.
The development of the Lao font technology was a priority for the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to enable the majority of the population in the country to gain access to information and communication technology, according to Mr Samit.
