Vientiane Province Records Steady Socio-Economic Growth in First Half of 2026

KPL Vientiane Province recorded steady progress in socio-economic development during the first six months of 2026, with gross domestic product (GDP) growing by 3.4 percent and reaching a current-price value of 12.43 trillion kip.

Growth was driven by balanced performance across key sectors. Agriculture expanded by 3.2 percent, industry by 2.8 percent, and services by 3.8 percent, reflecting continued economic resilience and positive momentum.
The province maintained strong agricultural output, producing sufficient rice, vegetables, fruits, livestock, potatoes, rubber, and non-timber forest products to meet domestic demand while supplying other provinces and export markets. Industrial processing achieved more than half of its annual target, while electricity generation reached 1,110 GWh, equivalent to 58 percent of the yearly plan. Mineral production and sales also posted solid results.
Tourism remained a bright spot, attracting 1.9 million visitors during the first half of the year and generating an estimated 1.47 trillion kip in economic value, surpassing the target by more than 10 percent.
Progress was also recorded in the social sector. Education and healthcare services continued to improve, with several key performance targets achieved and additional teacher allocations supporting schools across the province. Poverty reduction efforts helped 3,784 households improve their living standards, while nearly 1,500 people received vocational training and secured employment at home and abroad.
The province also expanded social security coverage, completed the establishment of 35 sub-districts, carried out disaster recovery projects, and continued unexploded ordnance clearance in agricultural areas of Kasi District to support safe and sustainable rural development.
