Authorities Plan Stronger Action to Improve Urban Environment

KPL Authorities are stepping up efforts to address urban environmental challenges by strengthening cooperation on waste management, drainage systems, urban planning, and flood prevention.

At a consultation meeting held on June 16, the Vientiane Capital Urban Management and Service Office (UMSO), together with the Department of Housing and Urban Planning under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, discussed plans to improve coordination and develop practical solutions for cleaner and more sustainable cities.
Officials reviewed current challenges and explored measures to enhance solid waste collection, wastewater management, urban drainage infrastructure, and planning systems to reduce flooding and improve environmental quality.
The meeting also focused on strengthening information sharing and cooperation between central and local authorities to ensure more effective urban management in the future.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working together to tackle environmental issues and support the development of clean, green, orderly, and modern cities across the Lao PDR in line with national development priorities.
