(KPL) The Lao government is calling for more modest celebrations during the upcoming Lao New Year in 2026, urging the public to reduce unnecessary travel and use electric vehicles to conserve fuel.
The guidance was issued in a notice from the Prime Minister’s Office aimed at maintaining market stability, public safety and social order during the holiday period.
Authorities said relevant ministries have been instructed to ensure adequate supply of goods and strictly monitor prices and service fees, particularly for transport and tourism, to prevent price increases.
Security will be tightened nationwide, with central and local agencies directed to maintain order and ensure emergency readiness throughout the celebrations.
Traffic management will be coordinated to handle increased travel, while public awareness campaigns will promote safe and responsible behavior and discourage activities that may cause congestion.
Officials also said entertainment venues must comply with regulated operating hours, while tourism authorities are preparing cultural and historical sites to receive visitors.
The government said the measures are intended to ensure a safe, orderly and cost-conscious celebration that reflects national traditions
