An official ceremony was held on 2 April 2026 to mark the completion and handover of the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial restoration project in Savannakhet Province, signifying the enduring friendship between Laos and Vietnam.
The event was attended by Mr Bounchome Oubonpaseuth, Secretary of the Savannakhet Provincial Party Committee, and Ms Daovone Xaysoulien, Deputy Secretary and Chairperson of the Savannakhet Provincial Administration Committee. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Mr Nguyen Loc Ha, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.
Funded by a grant of VND 66 billion from Ho Chi Minh City, the project involved a comprehensive upgrade of the historical site. Key features include the enhancement of the memorial plaque and a four-metre-high statue base, alongside the installation of three large lotus blossom sculptures. These sculptures were crafted from premium white stone sourced from Nghe An, the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh.
The renovation also saw the construction of a modern exhibition hall, administrative offices, and improved security fencing. The site’s landscape has been beautified with Dok Champa trees—the national flower of Laos—and an automatic irrigation system powered by solar energy.
Construction began in July 2025 and reached technical completion late last year. During the ceremony, officials from both sides exchanged certificates of completion and performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Speakers highlighted the project as a strategic link in the special solidarity between Savannakhet and Ho Chi Minh City. They reaffirmed that the successful restoration serves as a lasting symbol of the great friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic partnership between the two nations.
