(KPL) On March 19, 2026, Lao students selected for the MEXT Scholarship Program were honored at a send-off reception held at the residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Laos, as they prepare to pursue studies in Japan.
The event was attended by Phout Simmalavong, former Minister of Education and Sports and President of the Lao–Japan Friendship Association, and Kingmano Phommahaxay, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education and Sports, along with other distinguished guests, including officials from relevant organizations and Lao alumni who previously studied in Japan.
A total of 18 students from Laos were awarded scholarships this year to pursue graduate studies and enroll in technical and specialized training colleges in Japan.
Koizumi Tsutomu, Japanese Ambassador to Laos, encouraged the students to actively engage with Japanese society, deepen their understanding of the country and promote Lao culture during their stay.
He noted that Laos has attracted growing attention in Japan following the recent visit of Princess Aiko.
Speaking on behalf of the scholarship recipients, Valisa NINTHAVONG, who will pursue postgraduate studies, expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and pledged to study diligently and contribute to national development upon returning home.
A returning Lao scholar also shared experiences and encouraged the new recipients to make the most of their opportunity.
Officials said the program continues to play a key role in human resource development, equipping Lao students with knowledge and skills to support future national and regional growth.
