(KPL) On Mar 13, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Laos, led a delegation to participate in a Special Virtual Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers on the situation in the Middle East.
The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, in its capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2026.
During the meeting, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Secretary-General briefed participants on the potential impacts of the Middle East situation on the ASEAN region. Ministers exchanged views on both short- and long-term challenges, including humanitarian concerns, economic stability, and energy and food security.
The meeting expressed deep concern over the ongoing situation and called on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and cease acts of violence. Participants also reaffirmed the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
The ministers encouraged ASEAN sectors to strengthen cooperation to enhance regional resilience and prepare for possible impacts arising from developments in the Middle East.
