(KPL) Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklai Sivilay, visited Attapeu on February 12–13, 2026 to monitor and encourage progress in the sector, with a focus on water supply and sanitation development.
The delegation was welcomed by Phonxay Kaisonsena, Head of the Attapeu Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport.
During the visit, the minister inspected two major projects designed to expand access to clean water.
In Samakkhixay District, a system being implemented by Phetthavone Construction, Bridge-Road and Irrigation Company will supply 16 villages within the municipal area. The project upgrades an existing plant with a capacity of 1,800 cubic meters per day and adds a new facility with a capacity of 10,300 cubic meters per day. Both plants are designed to operate simultaneously to strengthen long-term water security. The system includes a tower-style raw water intake station on the Sekong River, more than 236 kilometers of transmission and distribution pipelines, and 3,285 water meters. The State Water Supply Enterprise has operated the system since late June 2025.
In Sanamxay District, a separate project implemented by Xaiya Integrated Construction and Repair Sole Co., Ltd will serve 10 villages. The project includes a new treatment plant with a capacity of 3,400 cubic meters per day, a tower-style intake station on the Sekong River, more than 164 kilometers of pipelines, and 2,300 water meters. Construction has reached 97.52 percent completion and is expected to receive provisional acceptance by late March 2026.
Both systems are equipped with modern control technologies and CCTV monitoring to support efficient management.
The minister and delegation also inspected road networks in Sanamxay District to assess conditions and plan future infrastructure improvements.
