(KPL) A multilateral memorandum of agreement was signed in early February 2026 to establish a Tropical Economic Crop Production Base, prioritizing the development of high-quality durian seedlings.
The agreement was signed by Phetmaniseng Changchaiyasan, Director of the Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development Research Institute of Laos; Bounsou Soudmaly, Deputy Director General of the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; Huang Yuhua, President of Lao Shunfeng International Trading Co., Ltd; Wang Jun, President of Yunnan Guangjing Green Plant Seed Technology Co., Ltd; and Mu Hongjun, Director of the Yunnan Tropical Plant Science Research Institute. Representatives of the Lao Durian Association and invited guests witnessed the ceremony.
The five-year partnership aims to strengthen cooperation between Laos and China in agricultural research and production. Key objectives include the collection, research and conservation of tropical economic plant resources, particularly premium durian varieties, as well as the development of technologies to enhance crop value and industrial processing capacity.
The agreement also seeks to promote efficient and sustainable use of agricultural resources, expand scientific exchange in agriculture and forestry, and support regional economic growth through the development of high-value crop production.
