(KPL) Laos has stepped up efforts to improve tourism quality and sustainability by disseminating ASEAN Tourism Standards to key stakeholders across the sector.

The Department of Tourism Development held a dissemination meeting on December 24, 2025, aimed at strengthening the capacity of trainers to integrate ASEAN tourism standards into education programmes and tourism business operations nationwide.

Speaking at the meeting, Mrs. Dalany Phommavongsa, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, said tourism standards play a vital role in enhancing the country’s competitiveness. She noted that the standards help ensure visitor safety and comfort, improve service quality, promote sustainable use of natural and cultural resources, and contribute to economic growth through higher revenues, investment, and job creation.

According to the Vice Minister, adherence to international and regional standards has helped position Laos as a competitive tourism destination. Popular sites such as Luang Prabang, Vientiane, and Vang Vieng continue to receive positive feedback from international visitors, while Lao tourism businesses have repeatedly won ASEAN Tourism Awards.

Mrs. Dalany also called for closer cooperation between the public and private sectors to sustain progress. She urged tourism operators that have met ASEAN standards to maintain service quality, continue upgrading facilities, and develop tourism products that reflect Lao cultural identity.

Officials said the initiative aims to attract more international visitors and encourage repeat travel, supporting the long-term, sustainable growth of Laos’ tourism industry
