(KPL) Xayabouly Province will hold its 19th Elephant Festival from 9–16 February 2026, with the official opening scheduled for 14 February. This year’s event will feature 50 elephants to mark the 50th anniversary of Lao National Day.

Organised by the Provincial Administrative Committee and the Young Entrepreneurs Association, the festival aims to promote elephant conservation and preserve the cultural traditions long associated with the animals.

Douangta Xayvouth, head of the organising committee, said the event highlights the elephant’s role as an important national heritage symbol.

Festival attractions will include trade fairs, cultural performances and the Miss Elephant Daughter pageant, alongside the signature elephant parade and shows. Visitors can also take part in activities such as a mini-marathon and elephant-riding tours around the town.

Local authorities are working to improve services ahead of the event, upgrading restaurants and accommodation to ensure cleanliness and safety, and stabilising market prices for tourists.

The 2026 Xayabouly Elephant Festival is expected to draw large crowds in a celebration of culture, conservation and national identity.
