The Lao Agricultural Business Association, through the Lao Durian Business Sector, led by Mr. Elavan Ladpakdee, Director of Elavan Golden Food Sole Co., Ltd. and founder of the Lao Durian Business Group, welcomed a delegation from the Thai Durian Association, headed by Vice President Mr. Witthaya Sobchon, during a visit held from 4 to 5 November 2025.
The two sides held consultations and shared lessons on promoting high-quality Lao durian that meets domestic demand and export standards.
During the exchange, Lao and Thai durian entrepreneurs visited several orchards across southern Laos, including Mr. La’s durian orchard in Ban Lak 23, Paksong District, Champasak Province (2,300 trees), and Mr. Phaivan Thamvong’s orchard in Ban Lak 28, Paksong District (1,900 trees). They also toured the Vanphasai Integrated Agricultural, Trading and Services Development Company’s orchard in Ban Nong Muang, Sanamxay District, Attapeu Province (3,500 trees), and orchards owned by Mr. Anothai, Mr. Thongsavan, and Mr. Silat in Ban Dong, Lao Ngam District, Salavan Province (2,300 trees). In addition, the delegation visited Jinko Company’s durian orchard, one of the largest durian plantations in Laos, covering thousands of hectares.
The visits aimed to strengthen technical knowledge and capacity in cultivating premium durian while deepening Lao-Thai cooperation in the sector. Discussions focused on orchard management, fertilization, pest and disease control, variety selection, and production planning, as well as training workers in pollination, fruit selection, and harvesting techniques.
Mr. Elavan reported that the Lao Durian Business Group currently includes 170 members managing more than 20,000 hectares and over 300,000 durian trees nationwide. Of these, around 10,000 mature trees produce an estimated 3,000 tons of fruit annually. By 2029, the group aims for 90% of its trees—approximately 270,000—to reach harvest maturity, with an expected total output of 24,300 tons.
