(KPL) Vientiane High School, also known as Vientiane Secondary School of General Education (Vientiane SEG), is preparing a series of activities to celebrate the 31st anniversary of National Teachers’ Day, which falls on October 7, 2025.

As the day approaches, schools across the country are organizing various events to honor teachers’ contributions to national education. At Vientiane SEG, the celebrations include a football match between teachers and alumni, as well as volleyball and petanque competitions.

On October 6, 2025, the school will organize a ceremony to commemorate Master Teacher Kham (Nai Khou Kham), who played a significant role in the development of education in Laos. The event will also feature artistic performances and the presentation of certificates of recognition and garlands to teachers who have demonstrated outstanding performance during the past academic year.

Mrs. Manivone Phasaiyavong, Deputy Director of Vientiane High School, said that the school was established in 1921 under the French education system. It initially operated as a primary school and later expanded into a college known as Lycee Pa Vie. Over the years, the school has undergone several name changes. In 1958, it became Lycee de Vientiane (Vientiane College). In 1975, it was renamed Vientiane High School to provide upper-secondary education. In 2000, it adopted its current official name, Vientiane Secondary School of General Education (Vientiane SEG), which offers classes from M1 to M7.

Vientiane SEG is a public school under the supervision of the Vientiane Capital Department of Education and Sports. It follows the national curriculum set by the Ministry of Education, emphasizing a student-centered teaching approach that encourages learners to research, analyse, and solve problems independently.

The school has also introduced a variety of foreign language programs to equip students with multilingual skills. These include Lao-French bilingual classes (14 classes, with students studying French six hours per week and learning natural sciences in French), English (78 classes), Chinese (29 classes), Japanese (14 classes), Korean (12 classes), and Russian (2 classes), the latter of which was introduced during the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 academic years.

In the 2024–2025 academic year, M7 students achieved a 100 percent pass rate in the final examinations. A total of 23 students received Red Diplomas, the highest academic honor, while 482 students out of 582 were recognized as all-around excellent, scoring no less than seven in all subjects. In addition, students from the gifted program won first place nationally in both Mathematics and Physics at the M7 level. Many graduates also passed university entrance exams and pursued further studies abroad.

According to Mrs. Manivone, these achievements are the result of the dedication and tireless efforts of teachers, who continuously strive to develop capable and responsible students. She emphasized that National Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to honor teachers’ contributions, celebrate their success, and preserve the spirit of the teaching profession.

This year, Vientiane SEG has prepared a range of activities leading up to National Teachers’ Day, including sports competitions and alumni engagement. The official celebration ceremony will take place on October 6, 2025, and will include a tribute to Master Teacher Kham, the Wai Khrou (Teacher Appreciation) ceremony, artistic performances, and the presentation of awards to outstanding teachers and students from the previous academic year.
