9th National Youth Congress Opens in Vientiane

KPL The 9th National Youth Congress officially opened on August 25, 2025, in Vientiane under the chairmanship of Monxay Laomousong, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Executive Committee, and Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Central Committee. The event was attended by Mr. Bounthong Chitmany, Member of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Secretary of the Party Central Secretariat, Vice President of the Lao PDR, along with Party and State leaders, senior and retired officials, and representatives of relevant organizations.

(KPL) The 9th National Youth Congress officially opened on August 25, 2025, in Vientiane under the chairmanship of Monxay Laomousong, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Executive Committee, and Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Central Committee. The event was attended by Mr. Bounthong Chitmany, Member of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Secretary of the Party Central Secretariat, Vice President of the Lao PDR, along with Party and State leaders, senior and retired officials, and representatives of relevant organizations.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Monxay stated that the congress will focus on reviewing the implementation of the directions, targets, and focal points adopted at the 8th National Youth Congress. Delegates will analyze achievements, identify causes of shortcomings, and discuss obstacles encountered in past work. The meeting will also consider and approve the Third Five-Year Youth Development Plan (2026–2030), the regulations of the Youth Council, and the revised regulations of the 9th Youth Organization of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party to align with current realities. Delegates will also review the inspection and leadership work of the 8th Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Central Executive Committee and elect the 9th Central Executive Committee to lead the implementation of future resolutions.

On this occasion, Thongly Sisoulith, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Party Inspection Committee, and Deputy Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Central Committee, presented the draft political report. He highlighted the activities and achievements of the past five years, noting that youth organizations at all levels have carried out their duties with vigor and enthusiasm. Guided by the resolutions of the 8th Congress, Lao youth of all ethnic groups have demonstrated patriotism, loyalty to the Party, and a strong commitment to the nation’s development and defense.

The report also emphasized efforts to strengthen the organization of the Central Committee, develop young members into future Party cadres and leaders at various levels, and improve organizational efficiency. While noting achievements, the report also addressed weaknesses and shortcomings, their root causes, and lessons learned. It outlined the direction and focus of youth work for the next five years (2026–2030), with the aim of further mobilizing Lao youth to contribute actively to national construction and defense.
