(KPL) The 8th Meeting of the Lao-Cambodian Joint Border Committee was held on July 26, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Lao delegation was led by Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, who also serves as Chairman of the Lao-Cambodian Joint Border Committee.

The Cambodian delegation was headed by Lam Chea, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Border Affairs and Chairman of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Border Committee.

Officials from relevant central and local authorities of both countries also attended.

The meeting endorsed the minutes of the 11th Meeting of the Lao-Cambodian Joint Border Technical Subcommittees held in April in Luang Prabang, as well as the minutes of the meeting between the Chairmen of the Joint Border Technical Subcommittees held on July 25 in Phnom Penh.

These agreements confirmed the results of recent joint fieldwork to identify new locations for border markers to replace old ones and to install additional markers along the shared border.

Between June 2024 and July 2025, both sides successfully identified 75 new border marker locations and completed the installation of 134 new markers, either as replacements or additions.

Since the implementation of this border demarcation effort in May 2023, the two countries have determined the location of 241 border markers—representing 47.25% of the total 510 markers planned. Construction has been completed for 207 markers, covering 40.58% of the total.

The two sides also discussed outstanding border issues and preparations for celebrating the 30th anniversary of the joint Lao-Cambodian border demarcation initiative.

Both parties agreed to continue their cooperation, assigning technical teams to conduct further joint fieldwork and expedite the completion of the remaining border marker tasks.

The progress made during this meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing effort to peacefully and clearly demarcate the border between Laos and Cambodia. It reflects the strong commitment of both governments to building a peaceful, friendly, and cooperative border based on the aspirations of the two Parties, States, and peoples.

The meeting was held in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, reflecting the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
