(KPL) The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khammuan Province, in collaboration with the Provincial Department of Education and Sports, organized a 25-km bicycle ride on July 26, at the provincial stadium to celebrate the inscription of Hin Nam No National Park of the Lao PDR as a Transboundary World Heritage Site, together with Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park of Vietnam.

The event was attended by Vanxay Phongsavanh, Governor of Khammuan Province; Bounmy Phimmasone, President of the Khammuan Provincial People's Council; officials from various provincial departments; and cyclists from different sectors across the province, forming a lively and festive procession.

Governor Vanxay Phongsavanh said that the inscription of Hin Nam No National Park of the Lao PDR as a Transboundary natural World Heritage Site together with Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, marks the first such transboundary site in Southeast Asia. This recognition represents a significant moment in world history and, more specifically, a great source of pride for the Lao people—particularly the ethnic communities of Khammuan Province.

He emphasized that the celebration aimed to honour this achievement and to announce to the world that Hin Nam No National Park has officially been included on the World Heritage List. The park, located in Boualapha District, Khammuan Province, is home to more than 1,500 plant species and over 500 animal species, many of which are found only in this unique area.

Governor Vanxay further highlighted that, now that the site has gained World Heritage status, it is essential to focus on both conservation and development. The goal is to transform the park into a genuine global heritage destination and an attractive site for both domestic and international tourists.

He stressed that this is a shared responsibility and a source of global pride, creating sustainable income and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
