Lao and Algerian Foreign Ministers Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

KPL Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane held bilateral talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Mr. Ahmed Attaf on July 8, 2025, on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related events held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 8–11.


(KPL) Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane held bilateral talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Mr. Ahmed Attaf on July 8, 2025, on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related events held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 8–11.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of the Lao PDR and Algeria to further strengthen their longstanding friendship and cooperation. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to engage in dialogue and reaffirmed their intent to deepen bilateral relations.

The ministers reviewed the history of cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 15, 1973, marking 52 years of diplomatic ties. They acknowledged the consistent exchange of congratulatory messages and support on key occasions as a testament to their enduring relationship.

Looking ahead, both sides discussed expanding cooperation in areas of mutual potential, including trade, investment, agriculture, energy, and tourism. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments of common concern.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to build on past achievements and explore new opportunities to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
