(KPL) On the afternoon of April 5, 2025, Party General Secretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith received in Vientiane a courtesy visit from Samdech Hun Manet, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The visit took place during Hun Manet’s trip to pay tribute and lay a wreath in remembrance of the late General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and former State President, who passed away on April 2, 2025 at the age of 102.
On this occasion, President Thongloun, on behalf of the Party, State, and people of Laos, as well as the family of the late General Khamtay Siphandone and in his personal capacity, expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to Samdech Hun Manet for leading a high-level delegation of the Cambodian Party and State to attend the tribute ceremony for the late General Khamtay Siphandone.
He noted that this gesture reflects the profound sympathy extended to the Party, State, and multiethnic Lao people and demonstrates the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
The visit also reaffirmed the deep-rooted and longstanding bonds of brotherhood between Laos and Cambodia, as well as the strategic, comprehensive, and enduring partnership between the two Parties, two States, and the peoples of both nations.
Furthermore, the General Secretary extended heartfelt thanks to the Cambodian Party, State, and people for their constant support and assistance to Laos across various sectors.
On this occasion, Samdech Hun Manet also conveyed a message of deep condolence from Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party, to President Thongloun Sisoulith.
On behalf of the Party, Government, and people of Cambodia, Samdech Hun Manet expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the passing of General Khamtay Siphandone, one of the founding leaders of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, a central pillar and guiding figure of the Party's Central Committee who played a key role in leading the national democratic revolution in the past, as well as in the current mission of protecting and developing the country.
He was a patriot, a revolutionary, and an outstanding leader of the Party and the nation, deeply respected and beloved by the multi-ethnic Lao people. Throughout his life, he devoted his intellect and strength to the revolutionary cause, to the development of the country, and to improving the livelihoods of the Lao people.
The passing of Comrade General Khamtay Siphandone is a tremendous loss for the Party, the State, and the people of Laos, as well as for the close friendship between the Party, State, and people of Cambodia. Samdech expressed his firm belief that the Lao Party, State, people, and the Siphandone family will overcome this great sorrow and continue to carry forward the cause of national development, achieving ever greater prosperity.
