(KPL) The Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union is taking significant steps to educate and train young people to preserve, protect, and promote Laos’ rich cultural and artistic traditions. This initiative integrates cultural and social values, as well as arts and literature, into youth development strategies, ensuring these traditions endure for generations.
The Union has prioritized incorporating cultural education into its youth development plans while leveraging media channels to inspire appreciation for the nation’s cultural heritage. Mr. Bouahom Somvichit, Head of the Department of Lao Youth Media, emphasized the importance of these efforts during the 2024 national summary meeting on cultural, tourism, and communication initiatives. Plans for 2025 also include expanded efforts to instill awareness of Lao culture, traditions, and customs in the younger generation.

To achieve these goals, the Union integrates cultural preservation and socio-political ideology into its national youth strategy. This includes producing educational resources for youth committees and conducting promotional campaigns through media platforms, print publications, and direct community outreach. The Lao Youth Media Department, alongside youth clubs and centers, plays a vital role in spreading cultural awareness.
Key initiatives feature youth-focused radio programs, activity centers, and archival resources designed to deliver engaging, comprehensive learning experiences. These efforts aim to ensure that Lao traditions, values, and ways of life—deeply rooted in the nation’s history—are passed down to future generations.
Central and provincial youth organizations have also hosted cultural exchange programs and exhibitions. These include international collaborations with groups such as the Russian Youth Camp and regional forums, where Lao culture is showcased abroad. These events not only celebrate Laos’ cultural heritage but also promote national pride and historical awareness among young people.
While cultural preservation is a key focus, the Union also recognizes the need to prepare youth for the demands of the modern era. Efforts are underway to equip young people with knowledge in science and technology to support national development. Investments in modernizing technical infrastructure and improving access to information aim to enhance youth engagement in science, technology, and socio-economic progress.
Despite the opportunities presented by rapid access to information, the Union emphasizes the need for balance. Mr. Bouahom highlighted the importance of fostering intellectual and practical skills while preserving the cultural identity of the nation.
The Revolutionary Youth Center of Laos remains committed to cultivating a generation of young people who are not only knowledgeable and capable but also deeply rooted in the nation’s cultural and historical legacy. By promoting physical well-being, educating about national history, and preserving traditions, the Union seeks to ensure that Laos’ rich heritage thrives alongside modern advancements.
