(KPL/Prensa Latina)  The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Russian Federation signed a new economic cooperation protocol, the state news agency KCNA reported today.

The document, strengthening bilateral ties, is the culmination of the 11th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science and Technology, which met, in this capital, for two days.

It was signed by Yun Jong Ho and Alexandr Kozlov, DPRK Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology, who co-chair the commission.

KCNA did not provide details on the contents of the protocol, but according to the Russian agency TASS one of the points was to increase the number of charter flights between Pyongyang and several Russian cities (currently there are only direct flights between the capital of the DPRK and the city of Vladivostok, in the Russian Far East).

On Monday, when receiving Kozlov, DPRK leader Kim Jong Un called for strengthening ties with Russia in the shadow of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed in June this year by him and President Vladimir Putin, to promote the prosperity and development of both nations.
