(KPL) Get ready to celebrate Laos’ vibrant coffee culture! The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) is bringing the coffee community together for the annual International Coffee Day (ICD), known locally as "Boon Kafe Ban Hao"—our beloved coffee festival. Join us from 27-29 September 2024 at the Vientiane Center for a celebration of flavor, culture, and community.
Let’s unite and savor the journey of coffee together!
This year's theme, "Coffee: Your Daily Ritual, Our Shared Journey," emphasizes the power of collaboration within the coffee industry. Since 2018, ICD has become a beloved annual tradition in Laos.
The country's coffee scene has grown in popularity, raising awareness about coffee's vital role in sustainable development. Last year's ICD drew over 16,000 attendees across events in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, featuring a variety of activities such as panel discussions, B2B meetings, and coffee cupping sessions.
The 2024 event is set to attract more exhibitors and participants than ever before. This event coincides with a series of ASEAN meetings and activities held under the Lao PDR's chairmanship. Additionally, with the Lao Tourism Year in full swing, we're expecting a surge of foreign visitors to enjoy trying unique flavors of Lao coffee.
This year, the ICD is supported by the Green Cup project, a flagship initiative under the European Union's Global Gateway, co-funded by the European Union and the Agence Française de Développement (ADF). Green Cup aims to boost trade and investment in the green economy for coffee and tea by promoting agro-ecological community action, fostering climate-resilient value chains, and facilitating access to sustainable markets.
The event is co-organized by the Department of Agriculture, through the Green Cup Project, Department of Trade and Handicraft Promotion, Lao Coffee Association, Lao Coffee Lovers, and Vientiane Center. It also receives support from partners including Oxfam, the International Labour Organization, the LURAS Project, Helvetas, Care International in Laos, Lao Farmers Association, UNODC, Vanmai Coffee, CPC, Coffee Fix, and others.
Mark your calendars and bring your cups to taste our local coffee varieties, engage in activities, and celebrate the shared journey of coffee together. Let's brew up an unforgettable celebration, spotlighting the vibrant coffee culture and community in Laos.
