(KPL/Prensa Latina) In Italy there were 412 confirmed cases of dengue fever in the first 253 days of 2024, of which only two autochthonous and the rest associated with travel abroad, a report of the Higher Institute of Health (ISS) says.

According to this last report of the ISS, from January 1 to September 10 of this year, the number of residents in this European nation infected with this virus exceeded by 50 the 12 months of 2023, when 362 were reported, although in that past stage the autochthonous cases totaled 82, a figure much higher than the current one.

In 2024, the average age of the sick is 40 years old, 52% of whom are female, and during the little more than eight months analyzed no deaths have been recorded in Italy, the document states.

In Italy, dengue virus surveillance is active throughout the year, not only for cases transmitted within the national territory, but also for the surveillance of cases contracted in dengue endemic and epidemic countries.

Countermeasures are defined by the National Plan for Prevention, Surveillance and Response to Arbovirosis, published by the Ministry of Health, which includes communication, training and surveillance of transmission through biological substances of human origin such as blood, cells, tissues, organs and contact with vectors.
