In its latest report the Italian Health Ministry revealed that 54,973 tests for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus were carried out during that period, a figure higher than the 42,25 carried out between January 2 and 8, but the positivity rate dropped from 3.7 to 2.7 percent.

In fact, the number of infected persons in the last week was lower than the 1,562 detected the previous week, and the number of deaths remained stable with respect to the 45 deaths that occurred in the previous stage.

One thousand 208 people remain hospitalized in general wards while 39 are in intensive care, according to the note.

The infection rate (Rt) was 0.81 and represents a decrease compared to the 1.08 seen in the last analysis, while the incidence of cases is 3 per 100,000 inhabitants, similar to that of the previous seven days, adds the source.
