Wildlife Crime Management Standards Manual for Forest Inspectors disseminated

KPL The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in cooperation with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Lao PDR), has organized a dissemination of a manual for wildlife crime management standards for forest inspectors across 10 provinces in Laos.

(KPL ) The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in cooperation with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Lao PDR), has organized a dissemination of a manual for wildlife crime management standards for forest inspectors across 10 provinces in Laos.

A meeting to disseminate these standafrds was held in Khammouane Province on July 8 in the presence of Mr. Dedsackda Manikham, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Khammouane Province; Mr. Khamphon Mounlamay, Director of the Forestry Inspection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry; and the Director of WCS Lao PDR.

The purpose of the meeting was to secure agreement on the endorsement and promulgation of the Handbook of Standards and Procedures for Managing the Seizure of Wildlife Crime Evidence (No. 0994, dated July 11, 2024), as stated by Mr. Khamphon. He emphasized that the meeting also provided an opportunity to review past efforts in combating and preventing wildlife crime, assess successes and challenges, and identify areas for improvement.

The Head of the Forest Inspection Department urged forestry officers to apply the guidebook’s content in their daily work to ensure effective results across the country. He also expressed gratitude to WCS and TRACE for their technical support, knowledge, and funding in developing the handbook. This standardization aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of wildlife crime investigations, ultimately ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable through the justice system.
