(KPL) In a historic move to transform digital media landscapes, ASEAN and China on May 25, 2025 launched their Joint Initiative on ASEAN-China Media Ecosystem Governance and ASEAN-China New Media Exchange Programme during a high-profile ceremony in Luoyang, China’s Henan Province.

The initiative, attended by top media executives from across Southeast Asia and China, represents a major leap in cross-border media cooperation – leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize content creation, distribution, and governance.

The comprehensive exchange programme will equip media professionals with cutting-edge skills through immersive workshops on AI-powered content creation and cross-cultural storytelling, Hands-on training in viral short-form video production and multilingual content development and co-production labs for documentaries, animations, and interactive media projects.

Participants will master social media algorithms for platforms like TikTok, Facebook, LINE, as well as audience analytics to boost engagement and monetization as well as digital branding techniques for the AI era.

The programme uniquely combines technical training with crucial discussions on responsible use of AI-generated content (AIGC) and digital human technologies, data security protocols and misinformation countermeasures  and ethical frameworks for emerging media technologies

A 'New Media+' incubator will foster joint ventures in cultural tourism promotion, digital preservation of regional heritage supported by a resource-matching platform connecting media organizations, tech innovators  and academic institutions.

A joint ASEAN-China task force, led by the China Center for International Communication Development (CCICD) and ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), will implement rigorous performance tracking systems, annual progress reviews, open-access knowledge hub for regional media partners.

"This partnership sets a new gold standard for international media collaboration," stated a programme spokesperson. "By combining ASEAN's dynamic creative economy with China's technological leadership, we're building a responsible, innovative digital future for over 2 billion citizens."

The ASEAN-China New Media Resource Platform will launch in Q3 2025, offering free access to training materials, case studies, and partnership opportunities across the region.
