(KPL) Luang Prabang Province, a tourist destination town, is going to expand its use of the bar code system to additional tourist sites since it has been found to be effective for income collection.

The bar code system that was installed at two popular tourist destinations – The National Museum (Old Palace) and Kuang Si Waterfall - earlier this year, has generated more income than before the system was installed.

The system is being managed by the Luang Prabang Finance Department in cooperation with the National Treasury via internet.

Because the system has proven effective for income generation, the Luang Prabang Finance Department is going to request from the government an additional budget for equipment to expand the bar code system to additional tourist sites.

“The bar code system installed at Luang Prabang’s museum (Old Palace) has helped increase income collection to over 1.5 billion kip (almost US$186,000).  When compared to the previous year, the income generated this year represents an increase of 32%,” the Director of the Luang Prabang Finance Department, Mr Somnith Khomthavong said.

Kuang Si Waterfall’s barcode system that was installed in March 2015 doubled the generated income from last year and amounted to 755 million kip (over US$93,000).

The Luang Prabang Finance Department has requested to the Ministry of Finance to provide a purchasing budget to set up the barcode system at Phou Si Mountain, the Wat Xiengthong temple, Tham Ting cave, and the international airport for visa arrival service.
