KPL The National Assembly Standing Committee has called on the Government to accelerate socio-economic development, maintain macroeconomic stability, and implement structural reforms to achieve the country's 2026 development targets.

The recommendations were presented by National Assembly Vice President Vilayvong Bouddakham during the First Extraordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly after Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone delivered the Government's mid-year report on the implementation of the National Socio-Economic Development Plan.
The committee urged the Government to strengthen investment in priority sectors, particularly agriculture, food security, agro-processing, and manufacturing, while shifting from project-based development to integrated value-chain production that links farming, processing, transport, and markets. It also called for greater support for the National Agenda on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction to generate sustainable incomes for local communities.
Lawmakers recommended increasing value-added production by reducing exports of raw agricultural products, minerals, and electricity, while promoting domestic processing industries and protecting local producers. They also called for stricter oversight of the mining sector, including gradually ending raw ore exports to encourage domestic smelting and mineral processing.
The committee reaffirmed the importance of developing the energy sector, with a focus on clean and reliable electricity generation, strengthening domestic energy security, and advancing Laos' ambition to become a regional electricity trading hub.
Members also urged the Government to accelerate road construction and maintenance, improve education and healthcare services—particularly in rural areas—and address shortages of teachers and medical personnel. They called for continued implementation of education reforms, preparations for the new academic year, and the nationwide establishment of sub-district administrations by mid-2027.
The committee further encouraged the Government to expand tourism by promoting eco-tourism, community-based tourism, cultural heritage, and traditional festivals to strengthen the sector's contribution to national economic growth.
