(KPL) Vientiane residents have been showing interest at the first Lao National One District, One Product “ODOP” exhibition, which officially opened at the Lao-ITECC in Vientiane Capital on Feb 22 and will run through Feb 26.
“The exhibition will feature national ODOP products and open opportunities to manufacturers and local producers of products that have yet to be determined as ODOP products, to bring their products to display and sell. The event will also provide an opportunity for sellers and buyers to meet each other,” said the Director General of the Trade and Product Promotion Department, Mr Somvang Ninthavong.
“Currently, there are almost 131 units with 486 ODOP products from 72 districts nationwide. Handicrafts share the majority of ODOP brands with 70.7%, followed by food and beverages at 21.7 %, and traditional herbal products representing 7.6%,” said Mr Somvang.
“The ODOP is a product made from craftsmanship, wisdom, ideas and resources indigenous to a particular district. They can be either tangible or intangible like services, culture and tourist attractions, lifestyle and traditions,” said Mr Somvang.
There are 144 booths displaying and selling products at the exhibition, of which 67 booths are ODOP units, 44 booths are local products, and 33 booths selling food.
The exhibition was organised by the Trade and Product Promotion Department under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
