Children are engaged in entertainment activity on the occasion of My Village Season II launch in Saravan on 19 Jan 2015.
(KPL) On 19 January, young children in Saravan Province got to enjoy the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Television program “My Village” Season II.
The first ECD TV’s "My Village" was launched in September 2013 in Vientiane Capital, Savannakhet Province, and Luang Prabang Province and was broadcasted by Lao National Television and Lao Star Channel, according to Mr Malaivone.
He added that "My Village" Season II has more content about culture and traditions of Lao ethnic people and also features lives of children.
Mr Malaivone said, “I believed that ‘My Village’ Season II is higher quality and more modern as compared to other international media programs and provides the children both entertainment and interest about leaning.
"My Village" - an Early Childhood Development Television program Season II will be broadcasted every Sunday starting on 18 January by Lao National Television from 6:45-7:00pm, and Lao Star Channel from 7:45-8:00pm, and at the same times on Public Security Television, Lao TV 5, and MV Lao.
The Early Childhood Development Television Program “My Village” broadcasted the first 15 episodes in 2013 through Lao National Television, Lao Star Channel and other television programs.
“My Village” is the first holistic, interactive and inclusive Lao television series that was created specifically for and with young children.
The television series has received great acclamation and is supplemented with storytelling, educational songs, and music videos / live action.
The television series is built upon the talent identified at the “Innovation Communication for Early Childhood Development Workshop” that was held in Vientiane Capital in early 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The programme aims to provide young children with a foundation of developmental skills that will help them in school and daily life. The ‘My Village’ television series is part of a larger strategy to strengthen and support Early Childhood Development Initiatives for young children throughout the country.
The series episodes, each fifteen minutes in length, explore a particular topic, prepare young children for school and life, and address their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. A key concept used throughout the television series is 'inclusiveness.' Girls, boys, children living with disabilities, and children from different ethnic groups provide input for production content as well as participate in the production process itself.
Currently only 23 percent of children in Lao PDR participate in any organized early childhood education activities and virtually none in the remote area. With the rapidly increasing reach of television, 'My Village' will help children, including those in remote communities, build foundation skills as well as a love for learning and as a result, we hope to see more children enrolling in primary schools at the right age with fewer children dropping out.
Children that have watched ECD programs such as the "My Village" television series tend to be more successful in school, are more competent socially and emotionally, and show higher verbal and intellectual development than peers who were not exposed to such programs. The benefits are often greatest for the most marginalized children. ECD is a key investment in country's future workforce and capacity to thrive economically and as a society.
The characters of "My Village" ECD include Kham and Keo, little buffalo, little elephant, and all their friends.
The launching of ECD TV’s “My Village” Season II was held at the Saravan Administration Office on 19 January, in presence of the Deputy Head of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Malaivone Sipasert, UNICEF Representatives, and teachers and young children from Saravan Province.
