(KPL) The Nam Pakxong Hydropower Company has postponed the planned release of water through the Nam Pak Dam spillway tunnel from August 23 to August 28, 2026, according to a report from Champasak Province.
The discharge into the Nam Pak Stream is expected to range from 20–50 cubic metres per second, potentially raising water levels by about one metre. The impact is expected to be limited to Morphou, Bangliang and Pakhuay villages in Pathoumphone District, with the situation remaining at a low-risk level.
The postponement follows declining rainfall and reservoir inflows. On August 21, inflows fell from 120 to 80 cubic metres per second, while the reservoir stood at 993 metres above sea level, leaving about two metres of storage capacity, equivalent to 12 million cubic metres.
Weather forecasts indicate rainfall will continue to decrease through August 30. The reservoir is expected to reach full capacity of 995 metres between August 28 and 31, with the planned discharge classified as Level 1, the lowest of four risk levels.
