(KPL) The Ministry of Public Security has officially launched the LAeID application nationwide and announced the discontinuation of the use of old-style identity cards, including the white and green cards.

The announcement is based on Decree No. 526/govt on the Citizen Database and Identity Cards, dated August 4, 2025, as well as relevant notifications and agreements on transforming the traditional census registration system into a modern electronic system and introducing the LAeID application.

The LAeID application, officially launched nationwide on July 18, 2026, is a modern electronic system designed to facilitate the management, verification and use of information contained in the national citizen database and identity card system.

All ministries, agencies, local authorities at all levels, civil servants, employees, military and police personnel, businesses, banks and Lao citizens nationwide are requested to register and maintain their personal information through the LAeID application. The electronic information may be used as an official reference for work-related matters and various transactions, replacing the need for traditional paper census registration books.

The Ministry of Public Security has also announced that old-style identity cards, including the white and green cards, will no longer be accepted for official transactions.

Relevant organisations and individuals are therefore requested to cooperate in implementing the new electronic identity system and comply with the requirements set out by the Ministry of Public Security.
