KPL Houaphanh launched its first annual exhibition of non-timber forest products and a green market on May 18, 2026. The event is being held at the Keo Lak Muang Garden in Sam Neua District and runs for five days, until May 22.

Governor Phonesouk Inthavong attended the opening ceremony, along with district officials, international organizations, producer groups, business owners, and local and international visitors.

The exhibition is organized by the Houaphanh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Its president, Khamkeo Ounnanonoud, said the goal is to promote sustainable use of forest products, help local communities showcase and sell their goods, and attract investment.

More than 70 booths are on display, many decorated with bamboo products. Exhibitors include project target villages and producer groups.

The event features five main activities: seminars on product development, processing demonstrations, trade matching between producers and buyers, cultural performances, and sports tied to tourism and local food.

A key part of the exhibition is a seminar on upgrading non-timber forest products. Topics include quality standards, sustainable beekeeping, mushroom farming, and the use of artificial intelligence in product development. Experts from Vientiane and winners of a value chain competition from the ProFEB project are leading the sessions.

Speaking at the event, Governor Phonesouk praised the organizing committee for its thorough preparation. He thanked the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Union for their financial support through the ProFEB project.

The governor noted that Houaphanh is rich in natural resources, including mushrooms, bamboo shoots, rattan, honey, handicrafts, medicinal herbs, and traditional foods. These products are vital for local incomes and daily life.

He said the provincial leadership has prioritized forest conservation and participatory management to prevent overharvesting. The green market concept is part of a broader push to reduce chemical use and promote safe, sustainable production.

Phonesouk also called on international organizations to continue supporting Houaphanh as a stable development partner. He urged local officials to use this event as a model for similar activities in other districts.

Organizers hope the exhibition will help non-timber forest products and OTOP goods gain wider recognition, connect producers with buyers, and expand market access — boosting the area's image as a source of high-quality, sustainable forest products.
