More than 920 pieces of unexploded ordnance were destroyed in central Laos over the past year, according to provincial officials.

Three UXO clearance programs operating in Khammouane Province exceeded their targets between April 2025 and March 2026, the province’s UXO clearance agency said.
One project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office with a budget of $875,368, cleared more than 507,000 square meters of land — reaching 109% of its target.
The project also surveyed more than 11 million square meters, far surpassing its goal, and conducted 166 risk education sessions for local communities.
A separate mobile destruction program, funded by American donor Michael Ambler and the Lao Recovery Foundation with a budget of $91,471, operated in four priority districts and destroyed 722 unexploded ordnance items, achieving 103% of its target.
Combined, the three projects destroyed 926 pieces of unexploded ordnance, or 132% of their overall target.
Officials said the results exceeded expectations. During a recent review meeting, teams evaluated past performance, discussed lessons learned and outlined plans to improve future operations.
Certificates of clearance were also handed over to targeted villages.
