Laos-China Railway to operate cross border service in mid-April

KPL (KPL) The Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd will begin operating cross border train services between Vientiane of Laos and Kunming of China’s Yunnan in mid-April 2023, according to a senior official of the railway company.

(KPL) The Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd will begin operating cross border train services between Vientiane of Laos and Kunming of China’s Yunnan in mid-April 2023, according to a senior official of the railway company. 

“Now, we are in the process of coordination and preparation in various aspects on both Lao and Chinese sides to open our cross border services in the middle of coming April,” Deputy Chief Engineer of LCR Vongthong Suphanthong gave an interview to the media on March 22. 

The daily number of tourists and business people entering the Lao PDR using the Laos-China railway has increased rapidly since Laos and China reopened their borders to international travelers. On average, 1,500-1,600 foreigners visit Boten Station and other stations of the railway to enter the Lao PDR every day.

“Since the Laos-China Railway launched its rail transport service on December 3, 2021, the company has prioritized its passenger service and safety with constant improvements. On March 15, the company launched its ticketing application LCR Ticket App allowing passengers to book tickets and manage their travel online,” said Mr. Vongthong Souphanthong.

“With LCR Ticket App installed in their smart phones, passengers can purchase tickets online. They can use QR code of the bought ticket to enter train station and board train. This is convenient, fast and modern. Currently, more than 15,000 people have registered to use the LCR Ticket App.”
