(KPL) The National Tourism Zone Development and Management Master Plan Dissemination Conference for Vang Vieng District and surrounding areas, covering the period 2025–2035, was held on May 7, 2025, in Vientiane. The conference was chaired by Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Ms. Suansavanh Viyaket.

The event gathered high-level participants, including representatives from relevant ministries, the National Assembly, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Vientiane Provincial Administration, private sector stakeholders, and government officials.

In her opening remarks, Minister Suansavanh emphasized the government’s commitment to tourism as a vital driver of socio-economic development. “Tourism is a sector prioritized by the Party and State to stimulate economic growth by harnessing the nation’s rich tourism potential,” she stated.

Vang Vieng, located in Vientiane Province, is one of the Lao PDR’s most iconic tourism destinations, known for its pristine natural beauty, vibrant rivers, limestone mountains, welcoming communities, and diverse eco-tourism and adventure activities.

Minister Suansavanh noted that while a previous master plan for 2010–2020 was developed with assistance from the Asian Development Bank and international consultants, its implementation had fallen short. Recognizing the need for a renewed and comprehensive strategy, the government initiated a revision of the plan in 2021 under the guidance of the Prime Minister’s Office. The result is the newly approved Master Plan for the Development and Management of the National Tourism Area of Vang Vieng District and Surrounding Areas (2025–2035), formally endorsed under Decision No. 08/PM, dated January 10, 2025.

The updated master plan emphasizes integrated urban and tourism development, sustainable land use, and the preservation of Vang Vieng’s natural and cultural heritage. It serves as a critical framework for guiding tourism infrastructure development, environmental protection, and investment over the next decade.

The conference provided a platform to disseminate the contents of the plan to all stakeholders at the national and local levels. The aim is to ensure coordinated implementation and encourage all relevant parties to align their efforts with the newly established vision for Vang Vieng’s sustainable tourism future.
