ROK Funds ASEAN–Korea Botanical Garden Project in Vientiane

KPL The Republic of Korea has provided more than USD 1 million in grant assistance to support the construction of the ASEAN–Korea Botanical Garden, a project aimed at promoting nature-based tourism and environmental education in Laos.


A groundbreaking ceremony for the garden took place on 28 April 2026 in the Dongmakkhay area of Xaythany district, marking the official start of construction. 
The site is expected to become a key green attraction in Vientiane, offering both recreational and educational value for visitors and researchers.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Xaynakone Inthavong, and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Laos Jung Yung Soo. 
Officials highlighted the project as a symbol of growing co-operation between Laos and the Republic of Korea, particularly in sustainable development and environmental conservation.
Once completed, the ASEAN–Korea Botanical Garden is expected to serve as a hub for biodiversity preservation, research and eco-tourism, strengthening regional collaboration while enhancing Laos’ appeal as a nature-based travel destination.
