Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Maithong Thammavongsa paid tribute to the late former President of Timor-Leste, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, during a visit to the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Vientiane on June 25.
Accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Maithong signed the official book of condolences on behalf of the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic following the passing of the former Timorese leader on June 21.
In his message, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed profound sorrow over the death of Mr. Francisco Guterres Lú Olo and conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Laos. He also extended his personal sympathies to the Government and people of Timor-Leste during this period of national mourning.
Mr. Maithong further offered sincere condolences to the late former President’s family, relatives and friends, acknowledging their loss and expressing solidarity with them in their grief.
The tribute reflected the longstanding friendship and cordial relations between Laos and Timor-Leste and underscored the Lao government’s respect for the late leader’s contributions to his country and its people.
