KPL Laos and Thailand jointly inaugurated a special border marker at the Nam Ngeun–Huai Kon International Border Checkpoint to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The ceremony, held at Border Marker No. 3-18 between Ngeun District in Xayaboury Province and Thailand’s Nan Province, was attended by Mr. Anouparb Vongnorkeo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, and Ms. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with senior officials and local representatives from both countries.
The special border marker symbolizes the longstanding friendship between Laos and Thailand and reflects their shared vision of advancing a Strategic Partnership for Growth and Sustainable Development.

During the event, Mr. Anousin Khattiyalath, Head of the Office of the National Border Committee under Laos’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the progress of joint border demarcation efforts. Since work began in 1997, the two countries have installed 211 border markers along approximately 678 kilometers of their shared land boundary.
Officials said the upgrade of Border Marker No. 3-18 commemorates 75 years of diplomatic ties while recognizing decades of successful cooperation in border management. They added that the initiative contributes to maintaining the Laos–Thailand border as a zone of peace, friendship and sustainable cooperation.
Looking ahead, authorities from Xayaboury and Nan provinces plan to jointly preserve and develop the surrounding area as both a tourist destination and a cross-border trade hub, further strengthening economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
