Vice President Urges Unity and Sustainable Development During Visit to Khammouane

KPL Lao Vice President, Mrs. Vienthong Siphandone met with the leaders of Khammouane Province on June 25, calling for stronger unity, good governance, anti-corruption efforts and sustainable socio-economic development.


During the meeting, Mrs. Vienthong emphasized that Party committees and administrative authorities at all levels should strengthen political and ideological work, promote thrift, combat corruption and continue implementing the resolutions of the 11th Party Congress. She also underscored the importance of maintaining political stability, ensuring public security, building a self-reliant economy, advancing rural development and poverty reduction, improving cultural and social services, strengthening the rule of law and expanding international cooperation.

Provincial Party Secretary and President of the Khammouane Provincial People’s Council Mr. Xaysana Khotphouthon briefed the Vice President on the province’s performance during the first six months of 2026. He reported that the provincial economy expanded by 4.7 percent, with gross domestic product reaching 21.127 trillion kip, or 73 percent of the annual target, while budget revenue totaled 3.151 trillion kip, equivalent to 65.01 percent of the yearly plan.

He also highlighted progress in agricultural production, livestock development, land titling and infrastructure projects, noting that Khammouane has successfully established all 44 planned subdistricts (taseng) with personnel and equipment in place.

Provincial authorities further requested central government support to accelerate the rehabilitation of Route No. 12 between Thakhek District and the Napao border checkpoint and to consider extending checkpoint operating hours to facilitate trade and cross-border transport.
