KPL The Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, has launched a specialized training programme aimed at enhancing the digital capabilities of Lao media professionals through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile journalism.

The workshop, held in Vientiane from June 22–26, 2026, focuses on “Skills in Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Multimedia and Multichannel Media” and “Mobile Journalism for News and Content Production.” It brings together journalists and media officials from central agencies and provincial media organizations in Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Khammouane, Savannakhet, and Champasak.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Vansy Kuamoua, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party; Mrs. Dang Thi Phuong Thao, Deputy Director of the Media Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; senior officials from both countries; Vietnamese trainers; and representatives of Lao media organizations.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Vansy underscored the transformative impact of emerging technologies on the media sector, emphasizing that journalists who effectively harness AI will be better positioned to lead innovation in the digital era.
“Artificial intelligence may not replace journalists, but journalists who master AI will play a leading role in shaping the future of media,” he said.
He stressed, however, that technological advancement must be accompanied by unwavering adherence to the core principles of journalism, including accuracy, objectivity, professional ethics, and political responsibility.
Mrs. Dang Thi Phuong Thao highlighted the rapid evolution of the global media landscape, noting that artificial intelligence, digital platforms, social media, and mobile technologies are fundamentally changing how information is produced, distributed, and consumed.

She said today’s journalists must complement traditional reporting skills with the ability to leverage AI tools, analyze data, create multimedia content, and operate effectively across multiple digital platforms. At the same time, she emphasized that technology cannot replace the essential role of professional journalists in ensuring credibility, editorial judgment, and public trust.
The training programme combines theoretical instruction with hands-on practice, covering AI-assisted content creation, mobile reporting techniques, the development of AI-powered assistants without programming knowledge, and the ethical use of AI in combating misinformation and disinformation.
Participants will also take part in field visits and practical learning sessions at the Lao Art Museum and selected media institutions in the Lao PDR, allowing them to apply newly acquired skills in real-world settings.
The initiative reflects the growing cooperation between Laos and Vietnam in media development and underscores the shared commitment of both countries to building a modern, digitally capable, and professionally responsible press sector that can effectively serve the public in an increasingly technology-driven communications environment.
