(KPL) Policy leaders and diplomats gathered in Vientiane Capital to assess global trends shaping opportunities and challenges for the country, with a focus on strengthening economic diplomacy.

The Lao Diplomatic Club held a seminar on February 18, 2026, titled “Current Global Situation: Opportunities and Challenges for the Lao PDR.” The session was presided over by Somsavat Lengsavad, former Deputy Prime Minister and Honorary President of the Club. Opening remarks were delivered by Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Participants included senior former ambassadors, veteran diplomats, representatives from line ministries, executives of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and members of the private sector.

The seminar aimed to review regional and global developments, identify emerging opportunities, and enhance preparedness to address external challenges affecting Laos. Discussions emphasized applying insights to research and foreign affairs practice, particularly to improve the effectiveness of economic diplomacy.

In closing remarks, Vatthunignom Douangmala, Director General of the Institute of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the candid exchange of views and underscored the value of the dialogue for future policy work.
