(KPL/VNA) Indonesia’s Nusantara Capital Authority and state energy firm Pertamina have agreed to cooperate in building a clean energy ecosystem in the new capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

Nusantara Capital Authority head Basuki Hadimuljono said the partnership will lay the foundation for realising a clean energy ecosystem in Nusantara.

He stressed that the involvement of strategic state-owned companies such as Pertamina will strengthen the vision of developing Nusantara into a “forest city” with low carbon emissions, through close collaboration between the government and the business community.

Under the agreement, Pertamina’s subsidiaries will play active roles in the capital’s development. Pertamina New and Renewable Energy will focus on renewable power, PT Patra Jasa will take part in real estate development, while the Pertamina Fund and Pertamina University will support sustainable development and education projects.

Agung Wicaksono, Pertamina’s Director of Transformation and Sustainable Development, said the company will adopt an integrated approach to support Nusantara’s growth. A key element will be investments in nature-based solutions to preserve ecosystems.

Pertamina also plans to build the “Nusantara Sustainability Centre” in the new capital, a research hub aimed at fostering high-quality human resources grounded in environmental, social and governance principles.

In addition to energy and environmental cooperation, the Nusantara authority noted that the partnership with Pertamina will also aim to enhance human resource capacity through education projects, and is committed to accelerating investment processes through adaptive and flexible mechanisms.
